ROAMING AROUND THE UNIVERSITY OF CANTERBURY

4th December ~ This was a short trip to the University of Canterbury, right after arriving in Christchurch from Queenstown. It was a semester break for the university at that time so there were not many people around, especially when we were there after 5:00 p.m.

A few buildings are affected by the 2011 earthquake and renovation or restoration activities are still in progress.

In many countries that I have visited, like Australia, Canada and the UK, unlike Malaysia, the university compound is always open to the public. There is no security guard at the entrance, and there is not even an entrance with a guard post, or a fenced campus area. Students and staff could get access into the buildings by using their smart cards so that should provide enough security, I suppose.

Hopefully a few people will be motivated to pursue their higher education here (and I would have a chance to come back to Christchurch again).
