WATCHING A MALAY THEATRE SHOW "SUMPAH SANG PUTERI"

8th DECEMBER 2017 ~ Live theatre performance is rarely staged in Johor Bahru city and I got excited to find out there would be one. My intention was to get a few of the angklung boys to come along as this should be a good experience for them to watch a live stage show. Unfortunately, only two managed to tag along in the evening. The theatre was held at JOTIC building at 8:30 p.m.

We were seated at the very front row of the hall and the attendance was good. As this should be a state co-sponsored kind of project, we had to sing the State Official Song and the national anthem "Negaraku" before the drama started.

The plot was simple: "Sumpah Sang Puteri" [translate: "Curse of the Princess] was the story of two princesses fighting for the same prince. There were fighting scenes and of course, the good princess won in the end. The whole thing lasted for an hour.

Even though I had watched better Malay theatre performed before in the city back in 2013 [CLICK HERE], I must compliment the effort of the people involved in making the show a success. There will always be room for improvement. As for the two students who were there, this should be a new learning experience for them.
