VISITING LEONG SAN TONG KHOO KONGSI - PART ONE

17th MARCH 2018 ~ I did not have much time to visit many places of interest during my stay in Georgetown. We managed to go to Leong San Tong Khoo Kongsi which was just a hundred steps away from the hotel.

"Kongsi" is clan houses - people of the same family live together in a same "enclosure" and over time, the place grew and developed into a small community in the city. If you are familiar with the history of Malaya, the original Chinese emigrated and settled in many places in the Peninsula, and of them was Georgetown.

the enlarged version - the history in summary

This place has been turned into a museum. If you want to experience living in the past, there are also rooms for accommodation available here.

Many people from this family have become prominent figures in Malaysia. One of them was the founder of Malayan Banking, now known as Maybank.
